About

Cribs To Crayons Childcare

Cribs to Crayons Childcare came to be at just the right time in my life. In the fall of 2016, I made the decision to transition from accounting to childcare, driven by the growing need for quality, affordable child care in our community. Years later, I know I made the right choice.

Unlike larger daycare centers, I offer a personalized, family-oriented program tailored to the specific needs of the families I serve. My goal is to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children feel comfortable, valued, and excited to learn.

At Cribs to Crayons Childcare, I specialize in providing quality care for up to six children at a time, ensuring each child receives the attention they deserve. Learning here is play-based and developmentally appropriate, with a focus on social-emotional skills, self-help skills, and practical life skills that set a strong foundation for lifelong success.

Children in my care spend their days exploring, creating, and discovering through play, both indoors and outdoors. I strive to create an environment that is inviting, flexible, and responsive to the ever-changing needs of young children. Every day is filled with new opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.

  • What do we provide?

✔ Nutritious Meals & Snacks – As a participant in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), I provide healthy, balanced meals and snacks for all children eating table food.  (click HERE to see what those requirements look like) → Clicking “Here” should bring up a new page with the photo in the Google Drive folder named “Meal Patterns”

✔ Infant Feeding Support – Parents of infants under 1 year old are required to provide breastmilk and/or formula, as well as any purees. Once a child transitions to table food, I will provide all meals and snacks. I am also experienced with baby-led weaning and am happy to support families choosing this approach.

✔ Diapering & Supplies – I provide baby wipes, while parents are responsible for supplying diapers and pull-ups for their child.

✔ Play-Based Learning – Children learn best through play! I provide engaging, hands-on activities that promote social-emotional development, self-help skills, and manners in a fun, natural way.

✔ Outdoor Time – Daily outdoor play is a priority. Weather permitting, children will spend at least 60 minutes outside each day, exploring, moving, and engaging with nature.

✔ A Safe & Loving Environment – My home daycare offers personalized care and low ratios, ensuring every child feels safe, valued, and supported as they grow and learn.

Enrollment

Enrollment Process

I am delighted to welcome children aged 6 weeks to 5 years at Cribs to Crayons Childcare! As a licensed Maine family childcare provider, I can care for up to eight children at a time, ensuring a small, nurturing environment. If you’re interested in enrolling, follow these steps to begin the process:

  • Step 1: Initial Contact

To inquire about availability, please fill out my enrollment inquiry form.

  • Step 2: Tour & Interview

If there is an available opening, we will schedule a one-hour virtual interview, which takes place outside of daycare hours. This ensures I can give you my full attention while maintaining the safety and routine of the children in my care. To prep for a successful interview, you will receive an email with the Parent Handbook, Contract, and Enrollment Packet. It is essential to read all documents in full before the interview. This ensures you can address any questions you may have prior to your child beginning care.

✔ The Parent Packet includes all required forms and a list of supplies needed for your child.

✔ Families must agree to all policies before moving forward.

✔ During the tour, I will introduce you to my program, policies, and environment.

✔ You will have an opportunity to ask questions and ensure my program is the right fit for your family.

✔ Both parents/guardians must attend to ensure everyone is comfortable with the setting and expectations.

Important Note: Past experiences have shown that when only one parent/guardian attends the interview, disagreements may arise later. To avoid this, I require that all key decision-makers be present.

  • Step 3: Submit Required Documents & Fees

Before your child’s first day, I must receive all required forms and payments.

About Me

Hello, I’m Courtney, the owner and provider at Cribs to Crayons Childcare. For nearly a decade, I have been dedicated to working with children, but my journey truly began as a teenager, babysitting for local families and my own niece. In 2016, with encouragement from my family and friends, I took a leap and established my licensed family childcare home—a decision that has brought me so much joy and fulfillment.

Outside of childcare, I find joy in reading, camping, and traveling. I’ve been married for over 15 years to my supportive husband, Eric, and together we have four amazing boys—one in middle school, two in elementary school, and one not yet school-aged.

Beyond running my daycare, I’m also deeply involved in my community, serving in various volunteer roles. When I’m not busy with childcare or community work, I love spending time with my family, cooking, and enjoying the little moments that make life special.

I’m passionate about early childhood education and committed to providing high-quality, developmentally appropriate care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. I engage in ongoing education, participating in workshops and training programs to stay up to date on best practices. I even plan to return to school to earn my second bachelor's degree, this time in Early Childhood Education.

Creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can learn, play, and grow is truly my calling, and I feel honored to be part of so many children’s early years. I look forward to welcoming your family into Cribs to Crayons Childcare!

Provider Time Off

I believe that providing the best care for your children requires balance and time to recharge. To ensure I can continue to offer the nurturing, high-quality care your family deserves, I schedule time off throughout the year. This time allows me to spend valuable moments with my family, prioritize self-care, and return refreshed to support your child’s growth.

Personal/Sick Days

I may take up to 10 paid personal or sick days throughout the year. In the event of an unexpected closure due to illness or emergency, I will notify parents as early as possible to allow for alternate arrangements.

Daily Schedule

Our daily schedule is thoughtfully designed to create a nurturing and structured environment that supports each child's growth and development. While flexibility is maintained to accommodate individual needs, we follow a consistent routine to promote stability and predictability for the children. Diapers and toileting needs are attended to as needed and at least every 2 hours.

Yes! Following Maine childcare licensing regulations, I have an open-door policy, meaning parents are welcome to visit. However, I kindly ask that parents avoid drop-in visits between 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM, as this is lunch and nap time, and unexpected visits can be disruptive to the children’s routine. If your visit causes your child to become inconsolable, I may ask you to take them with you to avoid further distress. The owner of this daycare is a wonderful mother and friend. She takes attentive and personalized care for each of the children in her care. This is a beautiful daycare facility that was built with love and care. I'd drive an hour one way to bring my child to her. You couldn't ask for a better place or a better person to help you raise your children. 10/10.

Courtney is a natural with children and also uses a very convenient platform (brightwheel) to communicate updates while a child is in her care. It's super encouraging to receive notifications on what your baby or child has been eating or doing throughout the day (and photos too)! I recommend Cribs to Crayons for your childcare needs!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nina Z.

I don’t know what I would have done without Courtney. My two school-age children were a handful, with big emotions and challenging behaviors, but she never gave up on them. She provided a structured, patient, and understanding environment that helped them grow in ways I never imagined. The progress they made in her care over the three years before we moved was incredible—better behavior, improved social skills, and a real sense of security. I will always be grateful for the love and dedication she showed my children.
